Nikola Mihailović, CUS President

Nikola was born on 18 May 1972 in Belgrade, where he finished elementary and secondary school. He holds a B.Sc. from the Zemun Faculty of Agriculture. Nikola speaks English and lives in Zemun.
He has worked with the CUS since 2001, and became its President on 8 December 2009.

Dragan Marković, Advisor

Dragan was born on 8 March 1953 in Ljig, Serbia. He finished elementary school in nearby Belanovica, then went on complete the Secondary Vocational Agricultural School in the regional centre of Valjevo and graduate from the Zemun Faculty of Agriculture. Dragan obtained an M.Sc. from the Faculty of Agriculture, where his thesis focused on the effects of fodder quality on livestock farming in Yugoslavia.

Before joining the CUS, Dragan spent 25 years preparing macroeconomic projections and developing agriculture and agribusiness development programmes in the former Yugoslavia and Serbia. He spent five years in the private sector, where he managed beef cattle raising, production of baby beef, and beef exports to the European Union (EU). Dragan speaks Russian and lives in Belgrade.

Dragan has worked with the CUS since 2008 as Co-operative Establishment Advisor. His duties include following and assessing organisational changes at co-operatives and legislation; monitoring how co-operatives engage with other businesses; and analysing the situation and position of co-operatives and co-operative arrangements for use by the SCA’s management. Dragan is also tasked with assessing how co-operatives engage with financial institutions and how they and individual farms borrow from them, as well as how these funds are used for investment and as working capital. He also closely follows the influence of the monetary system and monetary policy on agriculture, assists co-operatives with getting their loan applications approved, tracks the activities of agriculture development funds and aids co-operatives in using these sources of finance, helps mobilise development finance in rural areas, and facilitates the creation of co-operatives’ financial institutions.
